Local and National Resources to Support Arts Organizations


AltCap – AltCap exists to increase the flow of capital to communities and businesses not adequately served by mainstream financial institutions.  Whether it is through the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Program, small business and microloans, or other alternative capital, AltCap is committed to delivering accessible financing to support job-creating small business investments and catalytic, community-focused real estate development projects.

Americans for the Arts serves, advances, and leads the network of organizations and individuals who cultivate, promote, sustain, and support the arts in America. AftA provides training, workshops, research and advocacy support for artists and arts organizations.

ArtPlace is a collaboration among a number of foundations, federal agencies, and financial institutions that works to position arts and culture as a core sector of comprehensive community planning and development in order to help strengthen the social, physical, and economic fabric of communities.

ArtsKC Fund Grants. Funding for projects, especially in today’s environment, has become harder and harder to find. The ARtsKC Fund Grants provide financial support for the Arts through two grant programs: Catalyst grants and Inspiration grants.

Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Kansas City Chapter – has dedicated itself to serving nonprofit professionals and their organizations by offering quality programming, value-based membership, and professional relationships.

Francis Family Foundation. One of the priorities of the foundation is the support of arts and art culture through a Small Arts Grant Program , and more traditional Arts & Culture grants.

InterUrban ArtHouse supports artists through studio space, workshops, professional development, and networking opportunities.

Kansas City Volunteer Lawyers & Accountants for the Arts. Legal and accounting assistance to qualifying artists and arts organizations from all creative disciplines. The ArtSmarts program provides seminars in arts law to help artists avoid common pitfalls in their professional arts careers.

Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission is focused on the creative industries sector of the Kansas economy. The KCAIC is our state arts agency and is dedicated to measuring, promoting, supporting and expanding the creative industries to grow the state’s economy and create creative industry-related jobs.

Mid-America Arts Alliance. M-AAA’s programs are provided through three main focus areas: Arts and Humanities Programming, Arts and Humanities Grantmaking, and Professional Development.

Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership – periodically presents tools nonprofits can utilize to innovate and excel in today’s environment – building the foundation for a promising future. MCNL’s Navigation Series creates an interactive virtual community to learn and share the ideas nonprofits need to be successful.

Muriel McBrien Kauffman Foundation The Foundation’s mission is to support organizations and programs that enhance the quality and accessibility of the arts in the greater Kansas City community.

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) – The National Endowment for the Arts is an independent federal agency that funds, promotes, and strengthens the creative capacity of our communities by providing all Americans with diverse opportunities for arts participation.

Our Town Grants (NEA) – Our Town is the National Endowment for the Arts’ creative placemaking grants program. Through project-based funding, they support projects that integrate arts, culture, and design activities into efforts that strengthen communities by advancing local economic, physical, and/or social outcomes.

SMU DataArts – empowers arts and cultural leaders with high-quality data and evidence-based resources and insights that help them to overcome challenges and increase impact.

Theatre Communication Group – Through its Core Values of Activism, Artistry, Diversity, and Global Citizenship, TCG advances a better world for theatre and a better world because of theatre. TCG offers its members networking and knowledge-building opportunities through research, communications, and events.
